Self-Description: Beyond Toughness
Imagine being described by others as 'tough' not just once, but twenty times more often than any other word. This has certainly been my experience. I have survived multiple bouts with cancer, fallen from ladders, jumped from bluffs, had car accidents, and suffered a plethora of injuries. Despite these challenges, I've always carried on, even returning to work just two days after a significant lung surgery.
The Dimension of Acceptance
When it comes to describing myself, the answer often comes back to 'accepting.' I believe that accepting all opinions and views enriches my perspective and helps me think in different ways. This acceptance extends to every person, as I believe that everyone has something worthwhile to offer and add to my life.
Melding Adjectives: Strong, Determined, and Resilient
When asked to describe myself in just three words, I opt for 'Strong,' 'Determined,' and 'Resilient.' These adjectives help encapsulate the core of who I am, especially in light of my life experiences. Here's where I am today, months away from my 67th birthday:
Not Dead Yet
A reminder that life, despite its challenges, is not over, is a phrase that resonates deeply with me. It's an acknowledgment that I am here, growing, and learning, and that each day is a new opportunity.
Exploring 'Enough'
Beyond these physical and mental descriptors, there are three words that bring me peace: 'I Am Enough.' This phrase serves as a powerful tool for self-acceptance and eliminates the subconscious need to compare and judge. Whenever I find myself in a place of self-doubt or judgment, I remind myself that 'I Am Enough.'
This reflection on myself and my life experiences highlights the journey of self-description, where toughness, acceptance, and resilience intertwine. It's a testament to the complexities and multi-faceted nature of human identity.
Conclusion
In conclusion, self-description is not just about fitting a single label. It is a journey of self-discovery, acceptance, and growth. Whether it's 'tough,' 'accepting,' or 'I Am Enough,' each descriptor brings new insights and strengths to acknowledge.
Happy travels on your own journey of self-discovery.
