The One Thing I Own That’s Most Valuable to Me
As a digital influence privileged enough to navigate the realms of search engine optimization, I’ve come to realize that sometimes the most profound insights can be found in the most subtle of personal stories. This is a tale that seems inconsequential on the surface, but delves into the depths of what truly matters to an individual. Here, I’ll share a personal story about the one thing I own that is of utmost value to me.
Mom’s Bookshelf: A Memorial Beloved
One of my cherished possessions is a humble bookshelf from my late mother. It was used in her bedroom, but when it was her time to let go, and we, her seven daughters, went through the house picking out personal items, I could not bear to let go of the bookshelf. It felt like a tangible link to her, a physical connection to someone who was no longer there. When looking at the bookshelf, I am reminded not only of her but also of the moments we shared. The bookshelf signifies more than just the books it holds; it embodies a legacy and a memory.
For me, my thoughts, my intellect, and my self are the most valuable possessions. However, in a tangible form, my immediate attachment is to my van. It is more than a vehicle; it is a home on wheels, a symbol of my independence, and a place to retreat to when the world feels too overwhelming. Losing it would mean giving up a part of my freedom.
The Invisible Cloak of Sensation
A peculiar experience occurred in the park yesterday. The warm, sunny weather, typical of late summer, brought a lively crowd to the park. Despite the profusion of scantily clad co-eds, I remained unnoticed. It was as if I were wearing a real invisibility cloak, evoking a moment of pure, unbridled joy. To be unseen, to be ignored, to be insignificant – it is a strange yet oddly liberating experience.
Comfort in Familiarity: A Hoodie with My Father’s Name
A highly significant item to me is a hoodie with my father's name imprinted on the inside near the neck line. He had written it in black felt pen, a gesture that spoke volumes about his love for me. My father passed away in 2014, leaving behind a void that this hoodie alone cannot fill. Yet, it serves as a tangible reminder of his presence, a sentimental link that holds deep emotional value. Losing it, or it being replaced, would mean losing part of my father.
Unforgettable Sunny: A Special Mola Mola Sunfish Plushie
The most adorable and cherished possession I own is a Mola Mola Sunfish plush from a trip to the Oceanarium in Lisbon, Portugal. It was the most reprehensible, massive and ugly sunfish I had ever seen, yet it captured my heart immediately. In the gift shop, I impulsively bought Sunny, a whimsical and overpriced plush, for myself. Interestingly, my then-girlfriend-now-wife fell in love with it on the spot and named our sunfish plush Sunny. He quickly became a part of our lives, and we placed him by our bed as a piece of comfort and happiness.
Years have passed, but Sunny remains our constant companion. He is under my arm during late-night talks, on my lap as I read a book, and in bed with us every night. He has stood the test of time and cannot be found for sale anywhere else online. Sunny is more than just a plush toy; he is a living symbol of our bond and a reminder of cherished moments. Far from being stupid, giving him a name transforms him from a mere object into a cherished symbol of our lives together.
